Burning Memories, the 3rd book of Given A Second Chance, the novel, is in the process of being proofed, before getting published next. Watch for it this spring/early summer.
My first big write-up in the Shelbyville, IN Newspaper, done last July, while giving a talk at the United Methodist Church in Morristown, IN, for the Senior Citizens. LuAnn Mason, reporter, Shirley Shepherdson, former neighbor of mine, when I lived outside of town, back in the 70's, while in high school.
Note: Given A Second Chance, the novel had been republished through the same Publisher all the rest of my books had gone through due to promises New York had made, and then broken. The new ISBN number is 978-1-4759-7460-7. In this book, Wal-Mart was mentioned, whereas, the other, I was told I couldn't, but learned I could.

Given A Second Chance has it all: murder, mystery, suspense, romance, and a troubled spirit. This is a long book but one that is hard to put down; it captured my attention right from the very beginning and kept me glued to the pages to find out what happens next.
Jessi and her two best friends chipped in and bought a lottery ticket and won. They opened a bed and breakfast in the country
along with a boutique shop just like they had always dreamed of. Jessi was slowly getting her life back together after a divorce, which left her to raise her two daughters alone. Visiting her parents one weekend, she had a horrible dream in which she witnessed a murder taking place at an old farmhouse. On their way home a severe storm forced Jessi and her daughters to spend the night in an abandoned farmhouse. While there, she recognized the house as the one in her dreams. The spirit of the murdered man, Craig, appeared to her and asked her to help him find out why he was killed.
Detective Alex Storm, Craig's uncle, came to the Inn. So did the killer, who is back and determined to kill again; only this time to get the one he intended to kill when he got Craig by
mistake.
I enjoyed this story immensely. The author has combined thriller, suspense, romance and paranormal undertones to provide readers with an excellent novel. The plot reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Ghost.

Mac Kayla, Stephen McBride and Michael O’Conners were best friends in college and spent as much time together as they could. An argument, a flat tire, strong arms carrying Mac Kayla into the cabin led to a night of romance, which led to a pregnancy. When Michael and Stephen had a falling out, Michael left town taking the secret of his love for Mac Kayla and their night of romance with him. Three years later, Stephen died leaving Mac Kayla in full ownership of their country resort. She had no idea that her life and that of her children’s was about to change forever when a truth is finally
revealed.
Michael My Love by Pat Gillespie is a contemporary romance; it reads fast and is entertaining. My only criticism is the plot has been used too many times. The characters were well developed and easy to connect with. Mac Kayla drew my sympathy when she thought she had met a reputable man, only to find out that he took her for everything she had. I think she was more than a little naïve. Michael My Love is a good read; it can be a great read if the author will find a unique spin on the story. This is a great afternoon read that reminds me of the Silhouette-type books.

This is a clever story with a paranormal side to it that will
keep you turning page after page. The first part of it is a tearjerker that really makes the main character real for you. This is a good sign that you will care for the story and what will happen to him. It is a well-rounded romance with a bit of every emotion that should comprise this genre.
Meeting, separation, death, another man, a new beginning and much love.
Catherine and Morgan have been crazily in love from the first time they saw each other. Now here they are ready to be joined by a much awaited baby girl. Except there is some sort of curse going on in Catherine’s family tree, which blackens their love and hopes of becoming a family.
It all started long time ago when Catherine’s long past grandmother had a baby girl and died in childbirth. This sad story repeated itself whenever a female direct descendant of the Habersham line gave birth to a girl. This has happened for many centuries until now it is Catherine’s turn.
Morgan knows the story but they feel lucky and feel that the curse will skip Catherine. That is until she goes into labor too early and she is rushed to the hospital where she and the baby die.
Morgan is greatly pained by this event. The day of the funeral his lawyer gives him a letter from someone in the state his wife came from. It makes him think of how little he knew about her. Is also weird when his best friend comes from that same state to take him back to start a doctor’s practice there. Is it fate?
Morgan doesn’t want to set foot in a hospital again. But after reading the letter from the lawyer he realizes that the old Morgan place now belongs to him as his wife’s inheritance. Not only the place is his, but also his wife’s story. He takes the decision to move there to find the cause of the curse on his wife’s line. Instead he faces three ghosts that become very much a part of his new
life.

The setting for Pat Gillespie’s Cynthia Morgan Story is the plantations of New Orleans. The author will keep the reader wondering what is fact and fiction.
Catherine Habersham-Fairbanks and her husband Morgan were about to have their first child, a little girl. No woman in the Habersham family has survived childbirth. Each birth produced a daughter. Catherine believed the curse would end with her. She was determined to give birth to a healthy little girl and to survive the birth. But alas Catherine died in the arms of her husband and their daughter did not survive. The line of Habersham women ended with Catherine.
Morgan inherited the estates and plantation along with all the problems that come along with it. He also inherited the ghostly spirit of his late wife’s great-great-grandmother Cynthia. The ghostly spirit was the exact image of his wife Catherine.
A local wealthy man was determined to own the plantation and would stop at nothing to achieve his goal, even murder.
This is an exciting read. I was hooked from the first page and held captive to the last. I kept wondering how much was based on fact. I felt a connection with the characters even the ghostly ones. Fans of paranormal-suspense romance will enjoy this novel. This is a fast, enjoyable read.

The story involves a very wealthy family where one brother wants to knock the other one out of an inheritance and tries
to do so by having him committed to a mental facility and kept drugged up to hide the crime. But along comes Dr. Tristan Jamison who finds out the secret and is determined to save Alec. Unfortunately, the wicked brother, Andrew, doesn’t
give up easily and certainly doesn’t like to play nice and tries again, and again. I am glad that Tristan had Rusty and the others to protect her from the bad guys.
This book has a lot of potential and a good story line. The main character, Tristan, the psychiatrist, is likeable, spirited, courageous, and tenacious. Alec, the brother who had been wrongfully committed to an insane asylum, is likewise a character that the reader wants to see saved. I did enjoy the story, but some of the facts came out a little too quickly, like telling the
reader about the SIDS death of Tristan’s baby after just introducing the character and while still talking about her assault. I also thought that the discovery of the wrongdoings at the mental facility happened too early in the story and didn’t leave a lot left for the imagination of the reader.
Pat Gillespie has written a good story and I think readers will like it. I look forward to reading other things written by Gillespie. This book has a few typos and mechanical errors, but not enough to distract the reader or make the book any less interesting.

I was slightly disappointed in this book. Oh, not in a way that I didn't enjoy it. I did enjoy it thoroughly. It was a just a wee bit off for me. I can't quite put my finger on it, maybe it was because it was a little jumpy, but it just wasn't as good as her previous book, My Sweet Cory.
That being said, I did like the complexity of the characters and the plot line. While the plot line was jumpy, it was still VERY suspenseful, as Sara set out to find who was behind the HUGE over-turned truck accident. There were lots of twists to the angle, and it really kept me guessing. Sara and Gabe were characters that were full of emotion and flaws and really captured the heart of this reader.
All in all, this was a 4-star book. I think that everyone who loves a Godly book full of suspense and twists will love this Pat Gillespie book. And, despite the bit of jumpiness, I will not let that prevent me from reviewing future Pat Gillespie novels, as she has truly proven her worth as an author with her book My Sweet Cory! If you want a fast read that is filled with great characters and up and down suspense, then please give Pat Gillespie's Shattered Tears a try. I am sure that you will be able to overlook the jumpiness of the story and look at the quality of the author's
writing!

Republishing Notice
Preparing to have 'Given A Second Chance' the novel republished through iUniverse, out of Bloomingto, IN, because of it's 11 series being put through there. I find what they have to offer is not only location, but getting the books on the shelf and more viewers.
Now that I'm doing that, I also have a chance to make one other change to the story that should have been done years ago. The mention of Jessi Rae and her two friends having worked at their local Supercenter. I can now call it by its rightful name, 'Wal-mart', where in the 90's this writer once worked. My dream is to see my books on their shelves. Afterwhich, Kevin Rader, with the Indianapolis news, would do an on site interview, provided the store would agree to carry my books. If this is something you would like to see happen, write into Bentonville, AR and tell them.

Readers Review
I sent all my books through Readers Review. When they came back, I was overwhelmed by what they had to say about them, and the high ratings each of them had gotten. Look them over and see for yourself which ones had gotten the 5 stars, and which had gotten the 4. Then ask; which would you want to read for yourself!
I got an e-mail by an uprising writer that had gotten my attention, and this is what it had to say.
Hi Pat,
It sounds like you've been through a lot but you have Made It with your writing, which really is a great achievement. It's said that about 1% of what's actually written ends up getting published, so I think you are the exception rather than the rule.
Still, with those terrifying odds, I can't help myself from trying. I have been reading and writing stories since I was little, and a lot of them were inspired by ghost stories we told around the campfire as kids. Most of my stories now have that tinge of spookiness to them, that little bit of mystery, that I loved so much as a little girl.
I approached writing stories more seriously after a dream I had about a little girl in the woods that just wouldn't let me go until I'd written her down. After I read Stephen King's On Writing, I made a goal for myself (2,000 words a day, just like him), and before I knew it, a novel was born. This was back in 2003/2004 when I was in my junior year of college. It was horrible, this book embarrassing and totally over the top. I was trying too hard to write/be just like Stephen King and I had to learn to find my own voice and style.
And now! In the past year and a half, that very same book has been cut, slashed, rewritten, and has been sent around the world, in the form of a chiseled query letter/brief synopsis and as a partial and as a full manuscript. Agents from the US and the UK have requested it, and turned it down, until now I've been referred to an editor who is taking a fresh look at it and will suggest things to change. I look forward to revising it and making it new, and hopefully, one day, this book that has taken up almost 10 years of my life will land in the hands of the right agent at the right time. I have perilously high hopes for it.
Meanwhile, to distract myself from the all-consuming anxiety, I distract myself by writing another novel. LOL.
Despite everything, I feel like this is what I've been born to do. No matter what, I would be unhappy if for some reason I wasn't able to write. I somehow carve out time on the weekends, and after long days in my advertising job, the long train rides home, and get inspiration from the books I read during my commute.
Thanks so much for telling me about what it's been like for you. It has really paid off after all of your effort. Congrats! It's stories like yours that give me the nudge to keep going.
All best,
Veronica

Giving talk:
I'll be at the Newtone Fittness Club in Lafayette, IN at 2pm, giving a talk to Lafayette Writers Group, on how I got started writing, and published. 'You don't need a degree to have an imagination'.
Book Signing
Just did a Book Signing down town Lafayette, IN at the Farmer's Market Saturday, July 14. It was nice weather for it, and I was invited to talk at a library south of town, and a Writers Group at KD's Coffee Shop, down town Lafayette, on the first or third Saturday of the month. An independant news paper had also asked me to put some of my short stories in the paper. I plan to do all of these soon, but I have another Book Signing coming up on the 28th of July back home in Morristown, IN at their local Soap Box Derby Day. You ought to come and see it. They're fun!

MacKayla drew my sympathy when she thought she had met a reputable man, only to find out that he took her for everything she had. I think she was more than a little naïve. Michael My Love is a good read; it can be a great read if the author will find a unique spin on the story. This is a great afternoon read that reminds me of the Silhouette-type books. This book and others can be found on Nook and Kindle. They are all certainly a must read story.
My Sweet Cory

I love a good Christian author and a good suspense author. So, what happens when you cross the two? You get My Sweet Cory, that's what! I absolutely LOVE the amazing work of Pat Gillespie. This is a first book by her for me, and I can go ahead and tell you that it will most definitely NOT be the last. I was instantly captured and taken on the whirlwind of emotions that was woven between the words of this incredible story.
This was a heart wrenching, yet entertaining story. Cory's dying father made Max, the family friend, the one to watch over Cory. Cory's dad only wanted what was best for her; and to him, that was having Max protect her. But, what happens to Cory when another man hears for himself that she loves Max? Will she live? Or will Max, former cop skills intact, have to protect her life, like he promised?
I want to go on and on and give the answers to those questions. But if I do, I will spoil the plot for other readers. So I will stop there and say that the power of God and the incredible suspense blended together, create a MUST read novel by a highly talented author! Definitely worthy of a 5-star review, this is a book that I know I will go back and enjoy time after time. Pat Gillespie is an author who's work will be on my growing TBR list, and I can't wait to read another book by her!

Shattered Tears

I was slightly disappointed in this book. Oh, not in a way that I didn't enjoy it. I did enjoy it thoroughly. It was a just a wee bit off for me. I can't quite put my finger on it, maybe it was because it was a little jumpy, but it just wasn't as good as her previous book, My Sweet Cory. Yet, I have to say, this one was heartbreaking at times!
That being said, I did like the complexity of the characters and the plot. It was still VERY suspenseful, as Sara and Gabe fought to get back what they once had after the loss of they infant son, which really captured the heart of this reader.
All in all, this story is worth a 4-star rating and I think everyone who loves a Godly book full of suspense and twists will love this one, and any future novels Pat Gillespie writes, as she has truly proven her worth as an author with her book My Sweet Cory! If you want a fast read that is filled with great characters and up and down suspense, then give Shattered Tears a try. I am sure you will love the quality of the author's writing!

The Cynthia Morgan
Book Review
The setting for Pat Gillespie’s Cynthia Morgan Story is on a plantation in New Orleans. The author will keep the reader wondering what is fact and what is fiction. As Catherine Habersham-Fairbanks and her husband, Morgan, were about to have their first child after losing their last, no woman in the Habersham family has ever survived childbirth, as each first birth produced a daughter. Thus, Catherine believed the curse would end with her. Determined anyway to give birth to a healthy little girl, alas Catherine died in the arms of her husband, and their daughter did as well, ending the line of Habersham women.
Inheriting the familys' plantation along with all its problems, Morgan had also inherited the ghostly spirit of his late wife’s great-great-grandmother, Cynthia Morgan, who was the exact image of his late wife, Catherine.
Meanwhile, things couldn't have gotten any worst, when a local wealthy man was determined to get his hands on the plantation, and would stop at nothing to achieve it, even murder.
This is an exciting read. I was hooked from the first page and held captive to the last. I kept wondering how much was based on fact. I felt a connection with the characters even the ghostly ones. Fans of paranormal-suspense romance will enjoy this novel. This is a fast, enjoyable read.

My first Book Review
'Given A Second Chance” has it all, murder, mystery, suspense, romance, and, too, a troubled spirit. This is a long book but one that is hard to put down. This book captured my attention right from the very beginning and kept me glued to the pages to find out what happens next. When Jessi and her two best friends chipped in and bought a lottery ticket and won. They opened a bed and breakfast in the country along with a boutique shop just like they had always dreamt of. Jessi was slowly getting her life back together after divorce, which left her to raise her two daughters alone. Visiting her parents one weekend, she had a horrible dream. In the dream she witnessed a murder taking place at an old farmhouse. On their way home a severe storm forced Jessi and her daughters to spend the night in an abandoned farmhouse. While there, she recognized the house as the one in her dreams, and the spirit of the murdered man ‘Craig’ appeared to her and asked her to help him find out why he was killed.
Detective Alex Storm, Craig’s uncle, hell bent on finding his nephew's killer, came to the Inn to stay, unfortunately, so did the killer, who is back and determined to kill again. Only this time the man he had intended to kill, when he had gotten Craig by mistake.
I enjoyed this story immensely. The author has combined thriller, suspense, romance and paranormal undertones to provide readers with an excellent filled novel. The plot reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Ghost.
